Code of Conduct

Everyone has a different story and a different perspective, so it’s crucial that each member of the Splore community brings a mindset of empathy and understanding, especially when someone’s viewpoint may be quite different from our own. There is always more we can learn about the world, about music, culture, community and about people.

Splore Festival is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming experience for everyone, regardless of disability, physical appearance, body size, age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, neurotype or cultural background. At Splore manaakitanga is important to us and to listen with open ears, to honour the humanity of each individual we meet.

Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated.
Inappropriate sexual behaviour of any kind is not welcome at all.

Community members are encouraged to notify the organisers of behaviours that are inconsistent with the Code of Conduct. Anyone violating these rules can be sanctioned or removed from the event at the discretion of the organisers.

Harassment and inappropriate behaviour includes but is not limited to:

  • Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, ethnic background, or religion.

  • Deliberate misgendering or use of ‘dead’ or rejected names.

  • Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behaviour in spaces where they’re not appropriate.

  • Physical contact and simulated physical contact without consent or after a request to stop.

  • Threats of violence.

  • Incitement of violence towards any individual or group, including encouraging a person to engage in self-harm.

  • Deliberate intimidation.

  • Stalking or expressly unwanted following.

  • Harassing photography or recording for harassment purposes.

  • Sustained disruption of discussion.

  • Unwelcome sexual attention.

  • Pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.

  • Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.

  • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, Splore Festival staff may take any action we deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the festival and identification of the participant as a harasser to other Splore stakeholders or the general public if necessary.

If you feel that someone is behaving inappropriately you can contact any member of our production, volunteer or security team. Our team can be identified by their lanyards, radios or uniforms and will be trained in how to address and report any incidents that guests bring to their attention.

All reports will be handled in the strictest confidence. Your safety and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us.
