SoccerPractise is a genre-bending multimedia musical and visual experience which incorporates English and te reo Māori lyricism, electronic beats and electric guitar.
The group’s visuals are created and mixed live on stage with the VJ functioning as a ‘visual musician’ who reacts to the music in real time along with the rest of the group.
SoccerPractise started in June 2015 as a collaboration between four music and visual artists with an eclectic array of tastes including electronic music, R&B, punk, grime, trip-hop and Māori kapa haka music.
Along with a steady and growing roster of acclaimed live performances, SoccerPractise have released two singles through NZ’s Flying Out label, both of which reached #1 on student radio around the country.
The group’s first single Windfall was chosen by Spotify for their ‘Fresh Picks’ playlist which is followed by approximately 150,000 people and has currently been streamed more than 120,000 times.
The group’s second single Haere Mai E Tama, sung entirely in te reo Māori, also topped the alt. charts- notably spending 15 weeks in the top 10 on Dunedin’s Radio One.
After a 2016 nationwide tour with Yumi Zouma and Doprah, SoccerPractise were honoured to perform Moana Maniapoto’s Tahi at the APRA Silver Scrolls awards. The group is currently working on a debut release.
